In today’s Detroit News, a head line proclaims “Poll: Michiganians back graduated income tax”.
Any idiot would know that raising taxes on your neighbors would be a popular idea, especially during an Economic Depression like the one the politicians and bureaucrats in Lansing have inflicted upon us common folk.
However, envy, theft and covetness of the fruits of anyone else’s labor is evil and immoral.
God has made it very clear, in the 10 Commandments,
- 8) You shall not steal.
- 10) You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour
The forcible taking of the fruit of anyone’s labor is stealing, by definition. Using the government to take the fruit of anyone’s labor via taxes is using force, also by definition.
Covetness is to have a strong desire to possess something that belongs to somebody else (see stealing).
So, the results of this carefully crafted poll (for example, what is the definition of a rich person or couple?) merely reflect the moral degradation running rampant through our society.
As John Galt said: "I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." That should be the ideal we pursue in our society. Not one where the Political Class plunders the “Creators of Wealth” to purchase the votes of the “Parasites that feed on Society”.
