This article is deceptive at best. The library debt millage was almost doubled on the latest tax bills. So, instead of "shouldering major cuts", the Library dumped its financial obligations on the cash strapped (and in many cases unemployed) citizens. The Library should have made deeper cuts so that the millage did not have to be raised.
While the Library cannot use debt money for operational (or other purposes beyond those specified in the bond proposal), it can (and should have) used operational and other money sources to service the debt and avoided inflicting additional financial pain on the local taxpayers.
South Lyon Schools took the same reprehensible (and unnecessary) action to cover their debt service, too.
